Breakfast and lunch meal prices are set for the 2016-17 school year. Breakfast for all students is $1.50; Lunch for PreKindergarten-5th grades is $2.45; and Lunch for 6th-12th grades is $2.70.
One of the requirements of the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act was that effective the school year beginning July 1, 2011, school nutrition programs will be required to move towards charging paid meal category students at a price that is on average equal to the difference between free meal reimbursement and paid meal reimbursement. Schools that charge less than this amount are required to gradually increase their prices over time until they meet the requirement. The law establishes a recommended maximum annual increase in the federally required paid increases of a $0.10 annually, but schools may choose to increase the price at a higher amount. It is also important to note that each year the average reimbursement rates increase by approximately 3%, so districts will need to continue to increase meal prices to keep pace with the increases in reimbursement rates.
The Lunch price for PreKindergarten-5th grade students did increase from $2.30 last school year 2015-16 to $2.45 for this new school year 2016-17. All other meal prices remain the same from 2015-16 to 2016-17.
